Fly
Fishing the Great Western Rivers

Hardcover
- 256 pages (April 2004)
Gibbs Smith Publisher
Foreword
Jack Dennis has often said that not even the world's
greatest guide can control whether or not the trout are going to be
biting. He's also stood firm in his belief that the discerning guide
can always control more important things like the caliber of his or her
company and food.
Ralph Kylloe is a discerning guide. Flooding the reader with fond
memories while prompting dreams of trips yet to be, his photographs
enrich each page with genuineness. Ralph's writing is real and alive,
pithy and poignant. In tandem with his insightful photographs, it
captures the essence of what it means to be a fisherman. Ralph's
stories ring true as they entertain.
Fly fishing and Kylloe go together like bread and butter.
Meet Dr. Kylloe, the consummate renaissance man, artist, artisan,
musician, businessman, merchant, poet and professor.
Meet Ralph, the kid eager for new adventures in learning and
experiencing: a student of a man living life in big gulps while
studying the little things simply for the joy of it.
Meet my friend Ralph, a middle aged man-child of a fly fisherman who
can't get enough of stronger knots, fourteen foot-plus hand tied
leaders, double hauling, more colorful streamers, smaller midges,
heavier nymphs, lighter boots and tighter lines.
This is not a book about technique or catching but rather a whimsical
dalliance into the adventure of it all: a walk with a master
storyteller painting every page with photographs and prose that speak
"fisherman."
This Kylloe book captures the tone, the style, the grace, the
reverence, and the wonderment implicit in the fly-fishing experience.
